The BBC Broadcasts

Only one recording of Romany's BBC broadcasts survives - there is a short extract here.

But you can now hear the whole programme! Valley Stream Productions have released a CD with the whole 'Lost Half Hour' . For more details click on the News page, or go direct to Valley Stream's website

Important News: Vardo Restoration Appeal

Romany’s famous vardo, the smallest tourist attraction in the country, is still on display in Wilmslow and open to the public once a month during the summer.

Despite many minor repairs over the years the Vardo is now in poor condition and needs a thorough professional restoration.

Our Vardo Appeal was launched in 2011 - please take this opportunity to contribute to Romany's heritage.

Special Edition CD: Donors of £19.99 or over will receive a Special Edition of Romany's last broadcast on CD.

Or you can buy just the CD for £10 inclusive of postage. If you already have one this is an ideal gift for a friend!

To donate or order please send cheques, payable to The Romany Society, to Alastair King (Treasurer), 15 Albert Road, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5HT.

Thank you.

bbcradiocumbria.jpg (77380 bytes) A few years ago BBC Radio Cumbria produced some programmes Romany, during which the BBC team travelled in a gypsy vardo.

Their vardo is pictured here - click on the picture to see more detail.

This picture is taken from an account of this trip in the Cumbria Life Magazine (August 2000).  Details of how to obtain this and other articles about Romany are given on the Articles and links page.
